Welcome

This is a site for people with Non-Arteriitic Anterior Ischemic Optical Neuropathy, in short NAION. Its an eye affliction of unknown cause that manifests itself by a sudden loss of parts of the visual field. It happens usually in one eye, mostly in men above 50. It is easily confused with several other eye-afflictions. There is no cure, the loss of visual field usually is permanent. It is not a life threatening disease, but it spoils the quality of life as e.g. reading or driving become much harder or even impossible. It is no prequel to other diseases. Because Naion strikes in apparently 100 people per million it is a relatively rare affliction. As a consequence research remains limited. This site hopes to help that change, stimulate more science and also educate the patients and finally stimulate the development of a cure.

Of course a doctor knows best, but click here if you want to find out whether you have a Naion[
